the new shop!
This year has seen a lot of change for King Screen, none perhaps more important than in the production set-up. About two and a half months ago we began talking about upgrading and expanding the shop to increase consistent output volume for our “regular” workload but (more importantly), to be able to do so while tackling a few massive new accounts that were gearing up to run high quantity orders early in ‘09.
Getting the equipment was the easy part. Two shops in greater Atlanta were closing their doors and we happened to be at the right place at the right time, definitely a favorable windfall. Getting the equipment to fit into our production floor, however, was not so easy.
As many of you know, space is scarce at our facility. So adding a new six-color six-station CAPS register, a new eight-foot by two-foot Atlas 2-stage conveyor dryer, two new quartz flashes, a three-foot by five-foot Lawson Expo-Lite exposure unit and an Epson Stylus Pro 7500 large format printer – all while replacing the old four-color beast with a new Workhorse register – was going to be difficult to say the least. But with some creative geometry and a lot of patience, we made it happen.

R.I.P.
